So once upon a time I had set up a Blogspot account that I used to write up rants and reviews now and then. It went nowhere, my interest waned, and eventually I firebombed the whole damn thing and wrote off the maintenance of online journals altogether. Now, I've decided to follow the advice of some friends and give this game another shot. This time, I hope to do something more productive.
Here's the story: I want to be a storyteller. This can mean anything; novelist, comic book writer, script writer, whatever. And I know full well that this is a sky-high dream that could very well go nowhere. After all, every other geek with access to a keyboard wants to be the next Mark Twain or J.R.R. Tolkien. My aspirations are, thankfully, not that high.
My reason is not because I want to one day swim in a pool filled entirely with money and the various excretions of my fangirls. In fact, I've asked a close friend to kill me if I ever get that popular. I want to be a storyteller because it's fun. I want to entertain people, but if I educate people along the way, then hey: bonus. I hope to go into further detail later, but for now let's just say that the preservation and evolution of our society depends on stories, good and bad.
I want to make this a weekly activity, but I get the feeling that, like all online journals, it will eventually descend to becoming a monthly activity, then bi-monthly, then seasonal, and then annual before dissolving into obsolescence. Hopefully, my resolve will keep this going, but time will tell.
So starting tomorrow night, I'm going to begin uploading excerpts from finished short stories that I hope to see released someday. I'm not sure if this is the right choice, because after all I'm leaving myself wide open for plagiarism or mass trolling, but I have to give it a shot.
See you next time.
